Aunt Jemima Pancake and Waffle mixes have been recalled by the FDA due to a possible Salmonella contamination.
In what proves to be the latest in a long string of recalls, Aunt Jemima Pancake and Waffle Mix products have just been added to the nation's recall list. Released on March 4, 2008, the recall was announced by the Quaker Oats Company and includes four varieties of the pancake mix. The recall is due to a possible salmonella contamination.
The Aunt Jemima recall includes the following pancake and waffle mixes with the following UPC codes:
The UPC codes are located on the very bottom of the pancake boxes. In addition to the UPC codes, the products being recalled were also date stamped with the following dates: Feb 08 09 H until Feb 16 09 H. The dates are stamped on the top of the boxes, on the flap. If you have any of these products, with the date stamp, you are encouraged to contact the company with any questions or concerns, as well as the location where you purchased the items for a full refund. If you don’t want a refund, you can contact the company and they will mail you a coupon for a substitution product.
By the time of the safety alert, there had been no known illnesses directly associated with the recall. The Quaker Oats Company has stated that they believe the risk of salmonella contamination from the products is minimal but has issued the recall for consumer’s safety. Salmonella causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and gastroenteritis. It is dangerous to the elderly, the very young, and those with a compromised immune system. Complications of salmonella food poisoning may prove to be fatal.
The Aunt Jemima Pancake and Waffle Mix was shipped to seventeen states. These include Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin.
