Eating a diet of different coloured food may be an important way of giving the body the nutrients that it needs. See which colours work in the body for better health.

The vibration of the colour of food, like any other vibrational medicine, can be healing. Colour comes from the refracted light of the sun. Each colour vibrates at a different frequency and each vibration has a different effect on the body. The colour of foods indicates levels of things like carotenes (yellows and reds), flavinoids (red berries) and antioxidants (all bright colours).

Choosing the food needed according to its colour is easy. At times, the body is attracted to foods of a certain colour, and this is the best indicator.

For general guidance on choosing the foods needed, follow these guidelines:

Red Foods for Energy

Red has the longest wave length and the slowest vibrational frrequency. Red foods are warming and energising. As well as red meat, other red foods contain iron which improves stamina and vitality. Some are also good sources of potassium which improves energy levels.

Go for:

  • tomatoes
  • red bell peppers
  • red kidney beans
  • red lentils
  • strawberries
  • cherries
  • rhubarb

Orange Foods Boost the Immune System

Often associated with health and happiness, orange is also a good appetite stimulant. Orange foods improve digestion and as well as helping to boost the immune system.

Go for:

  • carrots
  • corn
  • pumpkin
  • apricots
  • mangos
  • oranges
  • papya
  • gooseberries

Yellow Foods Boost Brainpower

Yellow represents the intellect and yellow foods boost brain power. Research suggests some yellow foods high in vitamin E, are effective in reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer's Disease.

Go for:

  • egg yolk
  • vegetable oils
  • cashew nuts, peanuts, walnuts, almonds
  • yellow bell peppers
  • bananas
  • pineapple
  • grapefruit
  • melons
  • lemons

Green Foods for Acid and Alkaline Balance

Green foods promote a healthy lymphatic system and keep the blood free of toxins. They also balance the levels of acid and alkaline in the body and improve heart health.

Go for:

  • wheat and alfalfa grass
  • broccoli
  • peas
  • avocado
  • spinach
  • watercress
  • kiwi fruit
  • cucumber

Blue Foods for Calming the Body

For foods that calm in times of stress and reduce inflammation, look for deep shades of blue. Blue foods are also good for soothing the eyes after spending too long on the computer. Go for:

  • blackcurrants
  • raisins
  • prunes
  • blueberries
  • juniper berries

Violet or Purple Foods for Intuition

These colours are sometimes linked with spirituality and intuition. Although it is unlikely that any food would help develop a more spiritual approach, improving the functioning of the pineal gland could help with intuition.

Purple foods may help with promoting a healthy nervous system while protecting the brain. Aubergines or eggplants contain a phytonutrient called nasunin which protects the brain cell membranes.

Go for:

  • aubergines
  • blackberries
  • plums

All naturally bright coloured foods are packed with antioxidants which protect the body from disease. The best diet is a mixture of all the colours, so aim for rainbow nutrition for better health.

Always consult a health practitioner for problems related to diet.
