Thinking of a healthy snack can be difficult, especially if a candy bar or a donut is staring you in the face.
These snack recipes are not only easy to make and healthy; they are delicious too. FRUITY YOGURT
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Enjoy. Benefits: This snack is full of fiber, antioxidants, probiotics and a little calcium to boot. CHEESY SALSA
Put salsa and Kaukauna extra sharp cheddar cheese in a small bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir salsa and cheese mixture. Dip chips into cheesy salsa. Enjoy. Serving suggestions:
Benefits: Salsa is a great condiment. It is low in fat, high in the antioxidant lycopene and has a satisfying spice flavor. Tip: Kaukauna extra sharp cheddar cheese is extremely versatile. It isn't really low in fat, but a little goes along way. It has a lot of cheesy flavor. This Kaukauna cheese will also work well with the cheesy crackers below. CHEESY CRACKERS
Cut the wedge of cheese into four equal pieces. Place a piece of the cheese on a rice cracker and squish the cheese by placing a cracker on top. Tip: Rice crackers are a good alternative to other crackers because they are often lower in salt, fat and calories. PARMESAN APPLES
Cut an apple on all four sides. Place slices of cheese on each apple piece and enjoy. Tip: Try cheddar or any other cheese that sound good. Benefits: You know the old saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”? This a tasty way to get your apple as a filling snack. COTTAGE CHEESE AND TOMATOES
Slice the tomato. Put a little cottage cheese, salt and pepper on each slice. TURKEY PICKLE
Wrap the pickle with the turkey and dip it in the mustard. Tip: Avoid nitrates as much as possible. They are known to cause cancer. Benefits: Mustard is tasty condiment that every healthy eater should have. It is low in fat and calories. SMOOTHIE POPSICLESUse leftovers of the Ultimate Smoothie Pour into Popsicle molds. Freeze for 24 hours. Pop out of molds and enjoy. Tip: When you make a smoothies often, sometimes there is a little left over on the bottom of the blender. Instead of throwing it away (or drinking too much smoothie) freeze in a Popsicle mold. NUTSHave a small handful of raw almonds, pecans or walnuts. Serving suggestion:Have any of the above snack with a small piece or bowl of fruit. BOWL OF FRUIT
Use any of the fruits above to make a light fruit salad. Eat with a small handful of raw nuts. Tip: Use fruits that are in season. They are more nutritious, tastier and cheaper.
