The benefits of tea are numerous, and every study published reveals more reasons to drink this ancient beverage.
What is the second most commonly consumed beverage in the world? It’s second only to water, and has great benefits for your health. The answer is tea. The Discovery of TeaTea was said to be discovered 2737 B.C. when the second emperor of China had tea leaves blow into his hot cup of water. Throughout its history tea has been not only a popular drink, but has also been used for medicinal purposes. The benefits of tea continue to be recognized as tea is becoming increasingly popular. From the rave reports about green tea to the top selling book The Ultimate Tea Diet, this common beverage is getting a lot of attention. But what exactly can tea do for you? AntioxidantsA great benefit of tea is that it offers a surplus of antioxidants, and antioxidants present an array of benefits as studies have suggested that the polyphenols in tea may reduce the risk of numerous cancers. According to healthcastle.com if one consumes 4 to 6 cups of tea daily they will reduce the risk of gastric, esophageal, and skin cancers. And just two cups of tea may lower the risk of ovarian cancer by 46 percent. Types of TeaThere are four types of tea which come from warm weathered evergreen trees. These include: black, green, white and oolong. All four of these teas contain the polyphenols which are essential for your health. The difference among them is the process which they undergo. The more they are processed the darker the tea. White tea is a bit a different from the others for it is derived from young new leaves . Other BenefitsSo tea helps decrease the risk of cancer and is full of antioxidants, but what else can tea do for me? For starters tea is a zero calorie beverage and has many more nutrients and fewer side effects then most diet drinks on the market. Do you have allergies? According to a 2003 April issue of Prevention Magazine, “Japanese researchers have found that the antioxidants in green tea, block the biochemical process involved in producing an allergic response. Green tea may be useful against a wide range of sneeze-starting allergens, including pollen, pet dander, and dust.” Not only is tea a calorie free drink but many studies have shown tea to be an aid to weight loss. This is particularly true of green tea; studies have shown that green tea accelerates calorie burning, and this includes fat calories. There is something to be said about a commodity that has been around as long as tea has, and remains as popular as it is. And it is no wonder that it is as popular as it is, with all the benefits it offers.
