Sometimes eating healthy diets and weight loss can be difficult, but it doesn't have to be. Learn how 10 common foods can help you achieve success.

Choosing snacks wisely can be difficult, especially if you are trying to lose weight or turn over a new leaf and begin a lifestyle of healthy eating. Snacks aimed at dieters can actually be loaded with calories and have little nutritional value. But it is possible to find things that you love to eat that are not only healthy, but are perfect for the calorie conscious waistline.

  1. Tomatoes- Tomatoes are not only low in calories, one large tomato has 50,they are rich in a substance called lycopene, an antioxidant. Lycopene has been proven to reduce the risk of heart attack by approximately one-half in persons eating diets rich in lycopene
  2. Peaches- When hunger strikes reach for a nice juicy aromatic peach. One large peach is only 61 calories but is chock full of beta cryptothanxin which enables our body's cells to communicate with each other. It may also help prevent heart disease.
  3. Broccoli- Broccoli is one of the earth’s true super foods; one cup of chopped broccoli has 30 skinny calories. Broccoli is bursting with the cancer fighting fiber, beta-carotene and Vitamin C, plus folic acid (which helps prevent neural tube birth defects), bone building calcium and boron. Researchers have also found in broccoli a hidden cancer-fighting chemical, sulforaphane, which stimulates the activity of detoxifying enzymes in the body.
  4. Blackberries- They have the highest antioxidant properties of any fruit. A one-cup serving has 62 calories. They are also high in potassium and very high in vitamin C.
  5. Chocolate-Yes chocolate is good for you. Dark chocolate (not milk chocolate) is high in antioxidants. To avoid binding the antioxidants, avoid drinking milk when eating chocolate. An ounce and a half has about 200 calories, so don’t go overboard.
  6. Yogurt- Eating 2 8-ounce cartons containing the live cultures lactobacillus and streptocus thermophilous on a daily basis had ten times fewer allergies and came down with fewer colds. Light fat free yogurt averages around 100 calories per serving.
  7. Walnuts- These little gems help develop more than three dozen neurotransmitters for brain function. Six halves contain 80 calories.
  8. Green Tea- Green Tea has been proven to be antibacterial and antiviral. It is filled with antioxidants and has no calories. Green Tea also prevents against heart attacks and strokes and helps weight loss.
  9. Bananas- Bananas are rich in Vitamin B6 and potassium, which lowers blood pressure and maintaining a healthy immune system. One banana has approximately 172 calories.
  10. Carrots- Carrots have an extremely high beta-carotene content. Eating at least one carrot a day can reduce the risk of lung cancer and stroke. One cup of chopped carrot contains 52 calories.

Beat Hunger FirstKeep a few of your favorite snacks always close at hand. By eating low calorie snacks on a frequent basis you can keep hunger at bay and prevent episodes of binge eating. Whole apples and other fruits are great portable on-the-go snacks that can be taken with you anywhere.
