My son and I were watching the Oprah show and my son was completely outraged buy the guest Oprah had on her show. Was it a woman with 6 kids with 6 different fathers? No. Was it a quack doctor selling snake oil? No. Was it a political candidate my son thinks is bad? No.
It was Jerry Sienfeld's wife, Jessica. She came out with a new cookbook that is all about sneaking fruits and vegetables into children's food. She has a little system where you puree a few different vegetables and covertly add them to foods all week.
My nutritionist side says this is a good idea for everyone to add more fruits and vegetables to the diet. Why not do it as painlessly as possible?
My son and my other nutritionist side says this could be bad. Why? Well if we are not having kids learn to eat regular vegetables they will not eat them when they grow up. Also, pureeing veggies and sneaking them into your child's favorite food could add a serving or two extra of veggies, but it is not enough. You child will still need more than that.
My son loves vegetables. He said he does because I made them and he ate them. We never fought about it either. I cooked and they ate it. It was never a matter for debate. In the end, he likes his veggies.
While this pureeing food and sneaking it into food method is not a completely nutritional way to feed your child, it is a way to get more vegetables in his diet. What could be bad about that, right?
