Is cutting meat really good for the environment?

How much animal products needs to be cut, and what impact does this have on the planet? I have to say vegetarianism intrigues me. I live in a house of caring onminovres. I am not sure what impact this diet would have on the planet if everyone in the world did it. Veganism- takes this concept even further. I have no doubt that vegetarianism can be a healthy way to live. I myself, try to eat vegetarian until dinner. Some days I can completely cut out meat all together. I would love to get more information on what a vegetarian thinks about all this environmentalism lately. It is great, I think if we keep going the way we are, people are really trying and people are making a difference. I am fascinated by the fact that so many of the greats are or were vegetarians.

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances of survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet."
